Importance
of a Film Opening
The
purpose of a film opening is to show action and grab the viewer’s attention so
that they are hooked into the movie. The film opening also displayed what
sub-genre of a thriller it is and will often introduce some of the main
characters such as the antagonist and the protagonist. Most film openings are
roughly 2 minutes long, however some major blockbusters have film openings of
up to 5 minutes. It will show keys credits such as the production company, star
system and director. Opening credits are a
functional as well as creative part of movies. Telling the audience who is in
the movie, as well as other known talent such as writers, directors and
composers, sets the stage for what’s to come. The credits are often an equal
space g apart in terms of time and how they appear on the screen.
Here are a few examples of
some of my favourite film openings:
1. ‘The Adventures of
Tintin’ (2011)
2. ‘Toy Story’ (1995)
3. ‘Skyfall’(2012)
4. ‘The Girl With The Dragon
Tattoo’ (2011)
5. ‘The Pink Panther’ (1963)
