180 Degree Rule

180 Degree Rule

This is the building blocks of film making. The 180 Degree Rule is when you have two characters together, you should always be able to be on the left and right of them. If the 180 degree rule is broken then this causes distortion to the audience as they feel confused and will not be able to understand what they are watching. An example of such disortion would be if a a person was running to the other side of a field (to the right), but then would cut to him running (from left side), which would make the whole camera angle the wrong way around and cause the audience to be confused. I learnt from this that I for my opening to the thriller, I know that I do not want to break this rule. If I was going to break this rule this would confuse the audience and cause them not to enjoy the movie as much as they could. Looking through thrillers many do not break the 180 degree rule. Sometimes in thrillers breaking the 180 degree rule can signify something in the movie, but the best thing is not to break the rule otherwise this will disorientate the audience.
